Carolina Cerezo, MD
Position: Division Director, Pediatric Gastroenterology
Carolina Cerezo, MD, is the division director of the Pediatric Gastroenterology, Nutrition and Liver Diseases and director of the Feeding Program at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Dr. Cerezo is also an associate professor of pediatrics and clinician educator at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She is certified in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition.

Michael Herzlinger, MD is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. He is the Program Director of the Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship Program and a Mary B Arnold Mentor at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
Prior to his current position he completed Residency in Pediatrics and Fellowship in Pediatric GI at Brown University, Medical School at New York University School of Medicine, Postbaccalaureate studies at Columbia University in New York, and Bachelors of Arts at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Dr. Herzlinger is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology.
Albert Ross IV, MD
Position: Director, Pediatric Endoscopy
Dr. Albert Ross is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. He is the Director of Endoscopy for the Division of Pediatric GI, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Hasbro.
Dr. Ross is a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He completed his Pediatric Residency training at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, NH and his Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at the University of California at Los Angeles School of Medicine in Los Angeles, CA. After fellowship, Dr. Ross returned to his home state of Kansas, where he was an attending pediatric gastroenterologist and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita. He went on to lead the Pediatric Liver Transplant Program at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO before returning to the East Coast to join the faculty here at Brown in 1999.
Dr. Ross is board certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology.
Vania Kasper, MD
Position: Director, Hepatology
Vania Kasper, MD an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Clinical Educator at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. She has completed fellowships in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Brown University and in Pediatric Transplant Hepatology at Columbia University.
Prior to her fellowship training, she completed a Residency and Chief Residency in Pediatrics at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Kasper founded the Children’s Center for Liver Disease and is the Medical Director for the CHANGES adolescent weight management program at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. She is actively involved in resident and fellow education and curriculum development. Dr. Kasper’s research interests include non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, Fontan- associated liver disease and liver disease in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr. Kasper is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric gastroenterology and board eligible in Pediatric Transplant Hepatology.
Jason Shapiro, MD
Position: Research Director; Director, Pediatric IBD Center
Dr. Shapiro grew up in Lincoln, Rhode Island. He attended college and medical school at the University of Vermont before returning home to Rhode Island where he completed his residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Dr. Shapiro is currently a faculty member in the division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Nutrition and Liver Diseases at Hasbro Children’s Hospital and is Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. His clinical and research interests are focused on pediatric inflammatory bowel disease.
Linda Shalon, MD
Position: Director, Quality Improvement
Dr. Linda Shalon is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. She is the Director of Quality Improvement in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology. Her clinical interests include general gastroenterology, nutrition and obesity.
Prior to her current position, she completed Fellowship in Pediatric GI at North Shore University Hospital/Cornell University Medical College, Residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, Medical School at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, and her master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition at the University of Chicago.

Shova Subedi, MD
Position: Associate Director, Pediatric IBD Center
Shova Subedi, MD is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. She is the Associate Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
Prior to her position here at Brown/Hasbro she was an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and an attending Pediatric Gastroenterologist at the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock in New Hampshire. During her tenure at Dartmouth she served as the physician leader for Improve Care Now (ICN) Inflammatory Bowel Disease registry.
Dr. Subedi is originally from Nepal, where she was recognized for her many academic accomplishments including the “Outstanding Student of the Decade” at the L.R.I School. On arrival to the U.S., she completed her residency training in the Department of Pediatrics at Ascension St. John Providence Children’s Hospital in Detroit, MI, and her fellowship training in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Brown University.
Dr. Subedi is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology.
Irina Gorbounova, MD
Position: Pediatric Gastroenterologist
Irina Gorbounova, MD is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Clinical Educator at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Hasbro Children’s Hospital. She completed her general pediatrics residency in New York at Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital and fellowship training in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at University of Washington/Seattle Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Gorbounova enjoys seeing children with a variety of gastrointestinal disorders, but has a special interest in Disorders of Gut-Brain Interaction (DGBI). She believes in well-rounded and multidisciplinary approach and is actively building a multidisciplinary program “Mind-Gut Wellness Clinic” for children and adolescents with DGBI at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Dr. Gorbounova’s research interests include functional abdominal pain, pediatric chronic pain, and sleep.
In her spare time, Dr. Gorbounova enjoys spending time outdoors, running, practicing yoga, and traveling.
Prerana Baranwal, MD
Position: Pediatric Gastroenterologist
Prerana Baranwal, MD is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and a pediatric gastroenterologist at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a minor in Communication Sciences & Disorders from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and her medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. After medical school, Dr. Baranwal completed her general pediatrics residency at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine, followed by completion of a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. In her spare time, Dr. Baranwal enjoys singing, writing, painting, baking, and traveling.
